Past Life Reading Quiz

Vela looks into her crystal ball while you answer eight short questions, one at a time. When you finish, the glass clears and shows who you might have been.

What a past life reading is

A past life reading is a guess about who you were before this life, based on the idea that a person can live more than once. That idea is old and appears in many places. Hindu, Buddhist, Jain and Sikh teachings describe rebirth, each in its own way. Ancient Greek writers such as Plato wrote about souls that return. The Druze tradition holds a belief in reincarnation, and so do some modern spiritual communities.

Other traditions don't teach it at all, and plenty of people treat it as a story to try on, with nothing to prove. Both views are welcome here. You can treat this quiz as a belief, a thought experiment or a game, and it works the same way.

How the quiz works

Vela sits at her table in a hooded cloak, with a crystal ball in front of her. She asks eight questions, such as which smell feels familiar or which place you keep dreaming about. Each has four answers, and you pick the one that feels closest to you. There are no wrong answers, and most people finish in about two minutes.

After the last question the mist in the ball thins out and a portrait appears. Your result comes with:

  • one of 12 past lives, with a short story of three or four sentences;
  • what you carried into this life, meaning two traits you may recognize;
  • one gentle lesson and a closing line to take with you.

It's free, and you don't need an account to see your result.

The twelve past lives

These are the 12 portraits in the quiz:

  • The village healer: Gentle and observant, you tended a hillside village with herbs and patience, and people felt safer simply having you nearby.
  • The Age of Sail sailor: Restless and resourceful, you crewed a wooden ship across open water, reading the wind and weather and trusting your crew.
  • The Egyptian scribe: Careful and quiet, you copied records and stories beside the Nile, trusted for your steady hand and remarkable memory.
  • The Silk Road merchant: Sociable and quick-witted, you carried goods and news between distant cities and collected languages and friendships along the way.
  • The Renaissance painter: Observant and exacting, you ground pigments in a busy workshop and chased the way light falls across a face.
  • The lighthouse keeper: Steady and self-reliant, you tended a lamp on a stormy coast so strangers you never met could find their way.
  • The Japanese tea master: Calm and attentive, you prepared each bowl with full care and turned an ordinary gathering into an hour of stillness.
  • The Celtic bard: Expressive and warm, you carried songs and tales from village to village, holding whole histories in your memory and voice.
  • The Viking shipwright: Practical and patient, you shaped oak planks into seaworthy ships and took quiet pride in work that outlasted you.
  • The court astronomer: Curious and methodical, you climbed a tower on clear nights to chart the planets and noticed patterns others missed.
  • The desert nomad guide: Resourceful and hospitable, you led travelers across open desert by dunes, wind and stars, always knowing where water lay.
  • The 1920s jazz musician: Spontaneous and sociable, you played trumpet in a late-night club and never played a song the same way twice.

Past life calculator by birthday

Search for a past life calculator and you'll find plenty of birthday-based tables. They usually take your birth date or the letters of your name and look up a matching era or profession. They can be fun to compare.

This quiz works differently. It doesn't ask for your birthday at all. It uses your answers to eight questions, so two people born on the same day can get different portraits. If you do want to see what a birth date points to, try the quiz and a birthday table side by side and see which one feels more like you.

How to use your result

Start with the story and notice which detail you recognize in yourself today, whether that's a habit, a taste or a skill you picked up quickly. Then read what you carried into this life and ask which of the two traits people already notice in you. The lesson at the end is the part most worth thinking about, because it usually points at something you're working on right now.

If you want to look at yourself another way, try the Spirit Animal Quiz or the Aura Quiz. If there's a question you'd rather put to the glass directly, Vela's Crystal Ball is a short step away.

Honest note

This is a reflective quiz made for fun. It can't reach real past lives, and nobody can verify one. Your portrait comes from the answers you picked, nothing more.

It is also not hypnosis and not regression therapy. Past life regression is a debated practice, and anyone curious about it should talk to a licensed professional first. Take what's useful from your portrait, leave the rest, and be kind to yourself either way.

FAQ

Who was I in a past life?

Nobody can say for certain, and this quiz doesn't claim to. It gives you one of 12 portraits that fits your answers best: a village healer, a sailor, a scribe, a merchant, a painter, a lighthouse keeper, a tea master, a bard, a shipwright, an astronomer, a desert guide or a jazz musician. Treat it as a story to reflect on.

Is the past life test real?

It's a real quiz, but it isn't a record of anything. Your answers add up to a score for each of the 12 portraits, and the highest score becomes your result. It can't confirm anything about an earlier life, because no test can. It's for entertainment purposes only.

Can a birthday tell my past life?

There's no evidence that it can. Many online calculators match a birth date to an era or job, and they're fun, but the match is just a table. This quiz skips the birthday and goes by how you answer eight questions.

What is past life regression?

Past life regression is a practice in which a person, usually guided by a hypnotherapist, relaxes deeply and describes images that are taken as memories of earlier lives. Researchers who have studied it generally explain those images as imagination and suggestion, and some warn that guided imagery can create vivid false memories. This quiz does none of that. It's a short set of questions with no hypnosis.

What is a past life reading?

It's an attempt to describe who you may have been in an earlier life. Readers and traditions do this in different ways. Here, Vela reads your answers and shows you a portrait with a story, two traits and a lesson.

Is the past life quiz free?

Yes. The quiz, your portrait, the story, what you carried into this life, the lesson and the closing line are all free. You don't need to sign up.
