Destiny Matrix Calculator (Matrix of Destiny Chart)

Enter your date of birth and Vela draws your destiny matrix in her open book: an eight-pointed star of numbers from 1 to 22, each one matched to a card of the Major Arcana.

What the destiny matrix is

The destiny matrix, also called the matrix of destiny, is a method that turns your date of birth into a chart of numbers. Each number from 1 to 22 stands for one of the 22 cards of the tarot's Major Arcana, so a matrix chart reads a little like a tarot spread built from your birthday.

It is a modern system. It was popularised by Natalia Ladini in the 2000s and draws on tarot and numerology. It does not come from an ancient tradition, and we present it as a way to reflect on yourself and for entertainment.

How the calculator works

Enter your date of birth. That is all the tool needs: no name, no birth time and no birth place. Vela's book opens and an octagram is drawn on the page. It is made of two overlapping squares, one straight and one turned on its corner, with a numbered circle at each point.

The free result shows:

  • every point on the star, with its number, the matching tarot card and a one-line meaning;
  • your centre number, the core of the chart;
  • your three purpose numbers: Sky, Earth and Personal purpose;
  • a short reading for each card, covering a strength and its shadow side.

The calculator shows the core points only. A full matrix reading from a practitioner adds many more points, including age charts and separate areas of life, which this free tool leaves out.

How it is calculated

Everything is simple addition. The one rule to know is the limit of 22, because there are only 22 cards. If a number is greater than 22, add its digits and repeat until the result is 22 or less. A 22 is not reduced further. It stands for The Fool.

  • A (left) is your day of birth.
  • B (top) is your month of birth.
  • C (right) is the digits of your birth year added together.
  • D (bottom) is A + B + C.
  • E (centre) is A + B + C + D.
  • F (top left) is A + B, G (top right) is B + C, H (bottom right) is C + D and I (bottom left) is D + A.
  • Sky is B + D, Earth is A + C and Personal purpose is Sky + Earth.

Every result is reduced to 22 or less. Here is a worked example for 15 March 1990:

Point Sum Result
A day 15 15
B month 3 3
C 1 + 9 + 9 + 0 19
D 15 + 3 + 19 = 37, then 3 + 7 10
E 15 + 3 + 19 + 10 = 47, then 4 + 7 11
F 15 + 3 18
G 3 + 19 22
H 19 + 10 = 29, then 2 + 9 11
I 10 + 15 = 25, then 2 + 5 7
Sky 3 + 10 13
Earth 15 + 19 = 34, then 3 + 4 7
Personal purpose 13 + 7 = 20 20

In this chart the left point is 15 (The Devil), the top is 3 (The Empress) and the centre is 11 (Justice). The table further down lists all 22 cards, and the calculator shows the reading for each point.

What the points mean

  • The centre (E) is called the comfort zone. It is read as the core of the personality, the state you return to when life is calm.
  • The four main points (A, B, C and D) are the left, top, right and bottom of the straight square. They are read as the main themes you start from, with A as your day energy and D as the number the other three produce together.
  • The ancestral line corners (F, G, H and I) sit on the diagonal square. F and H are the father's line and G and I are the mother's. Matrix readers use them to talk about family patterns that a person may recognise or want to move past.
  • The purpose lines are Sky, Earth and Personal purpose. Sky is often read as what your spirit is drawn to, Earth as what you are asked to do in the practical world, and Personal purpose as the way the two combine.

These are the usual meanings among matrix readers, and schools differ in the labels they use.

The 22 numbers and their cards

Number Card Number Card
1 The Magician 12 The Hanged Man
2 The High Priestess 13 Death
3 The Empress 14 Temperance
4 The Emperor 15 The Devil
5 The Hierophant 16 The Tower
6 The Lovers 17 The Star
7 The Chariot 18 The Moon
8 Strength 19 The Sun
9 The Hermit 20 Judgement
10 Wheel of Fortune 21 The World
11 Justice 22 The Fool

Matrix practitioners number Strength as 8 and Justice as 11, which is the order used in the Rider-Waite deck. Some older decks swap them. The Fool is 22 here, though many tarot decks number it 0.

An honest note

The destiny matrix is a modern system and it has no scientific basis. It cannot predict your future, your relationships or your career, and the card meanings are symbols to think about, not facts about you. A hard card does not mean a hard life, and a kind one does not guarantee an easy one. This tool is for entertainment and reflection only.

FAQ

What is the destiny matrix?

It is a chart built from your date of birth. Simple addition gives you a set of numbers from 1 to 22, and each number is matched to a Major Arcana card. The points are arranged in an eight-pointed star and read for strengths, challenges and a sense of purpose.

How do I calculate my destiny matrix?

Reduce your day, month and year to numbers of 22 or less, which gives the left, top and right points. Then add them in the order described above to get the bottom, centre and corner points. Or enter your birth date in the calculator and it does all the sums for you.

What does the number in the centre mean?

The centre is called the comfort zone. It is read as the core of your personality, the energy you settle into when you are relaxed and not trying to impress anyone. Its card appears at the centre of the star with its own reading.

Why do the numbers stop at 22?

There are 22 cards in the Major Arcana. Any number above 22 is reduced by adding its digits, so 29 becomes 11. A 22 stays as it is and stands for The Fool.

Is this the same as the life path number?

No. A life path number is a numerology result between 1 and 9, with master numbers 11, 22 and 33, found by reducing your birth date. The matrix uses a bigger range up to 22 and many points rather than one. Our life path number calculator gives the single number.

Can the matrix tell me about love or money?

Not with this tool. Full matrix readings include extra points for love, money and different ages, but the free calculator shows only the core points and the three purpose numbers.

Where does the destiny matrix come from?

It is a modern method popularised by Natalia Ladini in the 2000s. It combines tarot imagery with numerology. It is not an ancient tradition.

Is it free?

Yes. The whole chart and the card readings are free, with no account needed. It is for entertainment purposes only.
