Introduction
This Privacy Policy explains what information AstroVellum ("we", "us") collects when you use our astrology and numerology calculators and AI-written readings, what we do with it, who we share it with, and how you can delete it. We do not sell your personal information.
In Short
- The free calculators use your birth details only to do the calculation. We do not store them.
- If you are signed in and get an AI reading, we save the reading together with what you entered for it, so you can read it again in My readings. You can delete each one.
- To write a reading, the calculated results and your text are sent to an AI model provider through OpenRouter.
- Payments are handled by Stripe. We never see your full card number.
Information We Collect
1. Account Information
You can create an account by signing in with Google. Google then shares your name, email address and profile picture with us. Where the site offers sign-in with a one-time email code, we use the email address you enter. We store this information in your account, together with your credit balance, credit history and orders.
2. What You Enter Into the Tools
- Astrology calculators (birth chart, rising sign, moon sign, compatibility and others): your birth date, time and place are sent to our server to do the calculation and the result is sent back. We do not store them.
- Numerology calculators and card draws: these are worked out in your browser. Your name, birth date and the cards drawn are not sent to us unless you ask for an AI reading.
- Birth-place search: the place name you type is looked up in a city database that is part of our site (from GeoNames). It is not sent to any third-party map or location service.
- AI readings: when you ask for one, we receive what the reading needs, which can include birth dates, times and places, names, a dream description, a tarot question and the cards drawn. See "AI Readings" below.
3. Payment Information
Purchases are handled by our payment processor, Stripe. Stripe collects your card details directly; we never see or store your full card number. We receive what we need to deliver and record your order, such as the plan, the amount, the currency, the payment status and Stripe's reference numbers for the payment and subscription.
4. Messages You Send Us
If you email us or send feedback through the site, we keep your message and your contact details so we can reply and improve the service.
5. Information Collected Automatically
- Sign-in sessions: when you sign in, we record the IP address and browser (user agent) of the session, to keep you signed in and to protect your account.
- Free readings without an account: to count the 2 free readings a day, we turn your IP address into a one-way hash that changes every day and keep a counter under that hash in our Redis database (Upstash). The IP address itself is not stored, and the counters are deleted after 48 hours.
- Sign-up checks: to stop the free sign-up credits from being collected again and again, we count new accounts per IP address and per device for 30 days. The device is identified by a hash your browser calculates from technical details such as the browser, screen size, time zone, language and graphics card; only the hash is sent to us.
- How you found us: when you create an account, we save with it the page you first landed on, the referring website, any campaign tags in the link (such as utm_source), your browser, operating system, device type, screen size, language, time zone, IP address and country.
- Server logs: our hosting provider keeps standard request logs. Our own logs for AI readings record the kind of reading, the model used and its cost, not what you entered or what the reading said.
AI Readings
Before a reading is written, our site calculates its facts (for example planet positions or the cards drawn). To write the text, we send those facts and what you entered for the reading to OpenRouter, which passes the request to the company that makes the AI model, currently Anthropic (Claude models). They process it to return the reading, under their own terms and privacy policies. We do not use your inputs or readings to train AI models.
Free text, such as a dream or a tarot question, is also checked by keyword screening and by an AI model before a reading is written, to apply our Acceptable Use Policy.
- If you are signed in, we save each reading in our database together with what you entered for it (for example birth dates, times and places, names, the dream text, the tarot question and cards), the model used and the credits it cost. You can see them in My readings and delete any of them there. Deleting a reading removes it from our database; it does not refund the credits.
- If you are not signed in, the reading is shown to you and not saved.
- Please avoid entering details you do not need to, and only enter another person's details (such as a partner's birthday) if you are entitled to share them.
Palm photos. If you upload a photo of your palm for a palm reading, the photo is used only for that reading, is deleted automatically within 24 hours, and is never used to train AI models.
Information Stored in Your Browser
- Your last birth details: the calculators remember the birth details you typed in your browser's local storage (under the name
astro:birth), so the next calculator is filled in for you. This stays on your device; clearing your browser data removes it. - Tarot card of the day: if you are not signed in, a random visitor ID is kept in local storage (
tarot:visitor) so you see the same card all day. It is not linked to your identity. - Cookies: we use cookies to keep you signed in, to carry the sign-up device check described above (a cookie that lasts one day), and to remember how you first arrived at the site until you sign up (up to 30 days). See the Cookie Policy below.
How We Use Your Information
- to run the calculators and write the readings you ask for;
- to manage your account, credits, purchases and subscriptions;
- to answer your messages and provide support;
- to keep the service safe, including our content checks and preventing abuse of free credits and free readings;
- to understand how the site is used and improve it;
- to meet legal, tax and accounting obligations.
Who We Share Information With
We share information only with the service providers that run the site for us, and only what they need:
- Vercel: hosts the website and our server code. When the site runs on Vercel, Vercel Web Analytics gives us page-view statistics.
- Neon: hosts our database (accounts, saved readings, credits and orders).
- Upstash: hosts our Redis database (free reading counters and sign-up checks).
- OpenRouter and the AI model provider (currently Anthropic (Claude models)): write the AI readings, as described above.
- Google: provides sign-in with Google, including the Google One Tap prompt.
- Stripe: processes payments.
- Resend: delivers the emails we send you, when we send you email (for example a sign-in code).
We may also disclose information when we believe in good faith that the law requires it, or to protect our rights, our users or the public.
How Long We Keep It
- Account information and saved readings: until you delete the reading or your account.
- Free reading counters: 48 hours.
- Sign-up checks: 30 days.
- Records of payments and credit transactions: as long as we need them for accounting, tax and fraud prevention. When an account is deleted they are kept without the link to it.
- Birth details typed into free calculators: not kept.
Your Rights and Choices
- Delete a reading: open My readings in your account and delete it.
- Delete your account: email us from the address on your account. We cancel any active subscription first, then delete your account together with all your saved readings.
- Access, correction, objection, restriction and portability: depending on where you live, you may have these rights over your personal information. Email us to use them.
- Browser storage: you can clear local storage and cookies in your browser settings at any time.
Cookie Policy
Cookies are small text files stored on your device. We use:
- Necessary cookies: keep you signed in, and support the sign-up checks described above. The site does not work properly without them.
- Sign-up source cookie: remembers the page and link that brought you to the site, for up to 30 days, so we can see how new members find us.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you block necessary cookies, you will not be able to sign in.
Children's Privacy
Our services are not directed to children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
International Data Transfers
Our service providers may process and store information in countries other than the one you live in, including the United States. We use providers that protect the information they handle for us.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we change the date at the top of this page. If a change is significant, we will make it clear on the site.
